Geomancy (Feng shui)
Feng shui (pronounced fung shway) is the idea of living in harmony and balance with our environment and dates back over 7000 years. It is the study of energy (Qi pronounced Ch'i) and how it's circulation affects people. The circulation of this invisible energy can be blocked or distorted by our environment, thus creating Shar Chi (or negative energy). In ancient times it was known as 'Kan-Yu' which means "the law of heaven and earth".

Today's Feng Shui schools teach that it is the ancient Chinese practice of placement and arrangement of space to achieve harmony with the environment. Feng shui literally translates as "wind-water."

'Sheng Chi' is one of the four favourable directions and it corresponds to wealth and prosperity as well as protecting fame and good reputation. To discover which direction your 'sheng chi' lies you need first of all to know your kua number (Different people have different energy needs. According to one of the feng shui schools called Flying Stars, there are two "energy" groups: East and West group. You will be either one or the other according to your date of birth and gender. The East Group numbers are 1, 3, 4 & 9. The West Group numbers are 2, 6, 7 & 8).

Believe me it is very worthwhile knowing your 'sheng chi' direction as since putting the theory into practice I have won twice on the lottery simply by using our feng shui software to generate some 'sheng chi' lucky numbers based on my family's birth dates and then placing them in the appropriate area of our home!!

Find your Kua number

The Pa Kua or Ba Gua are the eight trigrams described in the I Ching; the combinations of whole and broken lines represent the ever-fluctuating elemental forces of the universe: Each trigram represents a direction, and element, an animal, etc. These trigrams are combined to form the sixty-four hexagrams; the combined meanings constitute a detailed system of divination.

Pa Kua also refers to a wooden hexagram containing the eight trigrams with a mirrored center, which is hung over doorways as a protective charm.

Feng shui your property

Once you know your kua number/s you are half way to being able to apply the feng shui principles to your home or place of work. The next step is to determine the 'facing direction' of your property and for this you will need a good quality compass in order to obtain an accurate reading. Just as astrology requires an accurate birth time, feng shui requires an accurate compass reading in order to produce a ba gua that can be laid over a floorplan of your property to identify the corresponding sectors for career, relationships, wealth, knowledge, etc. on which you can then act to enhance positive chi and combat the potentially harmful effects of negative chi.

Your home doesn't need to become a Chinese temple as there are simple substitutes for traditional Chinese 'cures' that will be required to counter the negative chi prevailing in the relevant month/year. It's principally to do with colour, shape and element and we will advise you accordingly should you choose to use our services which include the loan of a compass if required.

A standard feng shui consultancy costs just £25 on the basis that you provide us with the compass reading (full instructions provided) and a simple diagram of your home. For this you will receive a professionally presented report interpreting the floorplan of your home with suggestions as to how you can enhance the areas of positive chi and reduce the harmful negative chi through the positioning of suitable 'cures'. Monthly updates can be provided for £1 with annual updates after the Chinese new year for £10. If you would like us to visit your home/place of work then our consultation fee is £25 per 30 minutes or part thereof.

Below is a ba gua showing the traditional layout with the Southern 'Li' trigram being at the top and the Northern 'K'an' trigram at the bottom (i.e. 'Chen' is east and 'Tui' is west):
